So the NICU doctor tried for over an hour to put in a PIC line…with no success. He was supposed to come back and try again, but as of yet has not. So maybe tomorrow?
It is an unfortunate possibility that Elanor is taking after me and has inherited my incredibly hard to IV/Access veins. Sorry, baby.
Other than that it’s been a fairly quiet day since our last update. Elanor has had 3 feedings of 1/2 an ounce each or so and has not needed to get food from her feeding tube. Fingers crossed that we keep it that way, with her increasing her intake a little each day…from what we hear, she should be eating between 1 and 2 ounces each feed. But no worries–everyone is confident that she’ll get there.
For those of you concerned that Ravi and I are perhaps not taking enough time for ourselves (and the several people who have made a point of telling us we should leave the hospital occasionally) you will be glad to hear that Ravi and I took a few hours off and went to buy new cell phones, have a quick dinner and then burn some time and money in Borders. Of course we walked away with 7 new books for Elanor, but in our own defense, the Dr. Suess books were 3 for the price of 2.
One other thing of note, which I think I forgot to mention–Elanor’s umbilical stump fell off yesterday, revealing her innie belly button to us! I suppose that’s the sort of thing that only parents of the newborn in question find newsworthy, but we do 🙂
