This morning Elanor had her second brain ultrasound. Unfortunately, as we learned this afternoon, they found something that looked like bleeding in two places has occurred in the past 24 hours. Elanor had a CT scan this afternoon and they confirmed that there is some blood pooled at the back of her head between the brain and the skull and there is a small 1cm or so sized bleed at the front left of her head.
The blood at the back is not a concern at this time, as we are told the body can reabsorb it and it should not pose a risk. The blood at the front is of more concern as it could cause seizures or potentially long term damage.
She is currently getting an EEG so that neurology and some other team members can get a feel for how much she’s at risk for seizures and if she should be put on anti seizure medication as a preventative.
Tomorrow they are thinking of doing an MRI to get another picture and to try to figure out what’s going on and how to best address it.
We’re told that in many cases, the body can reabsorb the blood and that there may be no damage whatsoever sustained from this.
In the short term, they are focusing on more agressively treating her high blood pressure and letting her wake up so they can take out her breathing tube, both of which should help her.
Ravi and I are keeping it together for her sake.
